πŸ‘ŒπŸΎCHI. the gospel is CHI. πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ the gospel is my happy place.

We helped Sister Hamill rake her leaves. It 'twas fun.
Funny story :
We were doing a role play in companionship study and I died laughing
to the point I was almost crying and so we tried teaching jimmy
Fallon. And it worked. Jimmy is our official new investigator. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I GO TO OLIVE GARDEN IN a month ?πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ try me....
We had a GNO with Sister Irvin. It was awesome. We had a lot of fun !

TYLISHA -- our new investigator. She's sooo cool. She asked for a Bible and so we got the info and showed up and taught her the Restoration and related it to the Bible and how important they both are in our lives. She has had a crazy life and is REALLY ready to change her ways and have a better life. She's on date for JANUARY 7 to be baptized and is super excited to work for it. I just love her to pieces. ❤️ I KNOW Sister Jagielski and I needed to find and teach her.
It brings me sooo much happiness to see people's lives change and see them be happy.

Tylisha with Sister Irvin.

Sister Willamson and I were twinning. She's so fun and sassy. Love her.
You can tell we are quite the giggly pair. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ‘―

Sister Kibbons and her mom, Sister Willamson. We are the SASSY bunch. πŸ‘―❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just love these lovely ladies. #grownupgoals
They seriously are so me but in different stages of life. These are some of the kindest and coolest ladies y'all will ever meet.

Kelly and us at Bickford Nursing Home to help set up for Christmas.
Kelly is the bomb! And I love Bickford. It's like home.

" ARE YOU CEREAL RIGHT NOW?" ---OH YES I AM ...
Sister Mercker gave us a TON of food...basically cereal, which is what I live on because cereal is the best. #tendermercy #ilovemycereal

The members love me because this is the 3rd time now I've been gifted a pack of Dr. Pepper for no reason. Sister Oxborrow and Sister Irvin and the Baldwins love me.

Fred was asking us questions about Thanksgiving and our conversation went a little like this :

Fred: do you girls drink soda ?
Me: of course Fred!
Fred: so you can drink Pepsi ?
Me: we can but should we ?..... Probably not. You know why ?
Fred: hmnn...?
Me: cause Dr. Pepper is better for you
Fred: no it's not.
---
Fred just kinda laughed and walked off. I saw this funny thing on Pinterest and was gonna use it by replying by saying, "well is Monopoly money ok?" but I forgot in the moment. Sister Irvin and I had a good laugh about it. When we get to their house for Thanksgiving...BOOM, there's a 6 pack of Dr. Pepper just for ME. Seriously Sister Irvin is wonderful. Always taking care of us!

Nov 21, 2016

I am very grateful for lots of things! And one is hymns. We had a special stake conference and we sang the hymn " Where Can I Turn for Peace" and can I just tell y'all I just love that hymn! It's a hymn that's definitely brought me a lot of comfort. The world wants us to go to worldly answer for help. They want us to use their resources for guidance and healing. It may seem to help for a moment, but that's just Satan so DON'T DO IT. In all reality the Savior is the only one who can and will give us peace and other things we need. He will never leave us. He will always help us. One of my very best friends and I were talking about this hymn recently-- how when we partake of the sacrament we can receive peace and happiness. I know that's so true. We may not want to go to church or read our scriptures, but I know when we take the time, we feel so much better. There have been many times I go to the temple or sacrament meeting and feel SO COMPLETELY empty and leave soooo full of happiness and peace and love and just every good thing you could think of.

I also really love the hymn "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" because I really do know we have a loving Savior. His name is Jesus Christ. I know he suffered and died for us. Because I know Jesus Christ lives, I am happy. Knowing this brings peace into my heart. I know it can bring these happy feelings to teach of you. You just gotta let him in.

I have REALLY come to know importance of Sacrament Meeting People try to talk to me, and I'm like "WILLIS, THINK ABOUT JESUS ", or even signing Jesus in sign language (haha thanks Mom πŸ˜‚

GET THIS (drum roll please haha)  EVERYTHING we've shared w/ members this week was addressed in Stake Conference.  It was yet another manifestation that we have been following the Spirit in the ways of the Lord...saying and doing what He'd have us. Seriously feels cool. The speakers hit on EVERY topic and several of the scriptures we've referenced this week. SERIOUSLY WOW.

As we were driving back from Stake Conference, Sister Irvin shared what she learned in Saturday session. It REALLY hit me...
We don't put blood on our doorposts, but we do have signs we show to the Lord of our love and appreciation and respect for him. WHAT IS YOUR SIGN TO THE LORD??? ... attending Sacrament meeting, attitude  on Sabbath? Are you looking  to please the Lord or someone else? Those things will give us protection from the things to come.

GRATEFUL FOR:
  • At Stake Conference there was this little girl in front of us making me laugh and smile--reminded me of when I was her age. She was a feisty one--and grumpy--kind of a pill. Her parents were so patient and gentle with her. It reminded me of my wonderful parents. I'm very grateful for all they do for me and have done. I'm grateful they kept going on raising me even though I was a difficult little child. πŸ˜‚#troopers
  • My amazing family! #eternalfamilies and my awesome support system!
  • Opportunity to serve my mission. I know this is my mission. It's the best one, and I've learned and grown so much. I've met so many wonderful people and many prayers have been answered.
  • IT HASN'T SNOWED HERE YET---I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT!
  • Wonderful members in this mission who help us out so much
  • Salad, Veggies, Fruits. Yeah, I just wanna eat that forever. Nothing else. I'm dying with all this dessert. And yet, here comes the holidays ... Oh boy haha. πŸ˜
  • I am grateful for so many things but that's just a glimpse into it :)

🌞🌞🌞CELESTIAL KINGDOM OR BUST πŸŒžπŸŒžπŸŒžπŸŒžπŸŒž
We have new Sister Training Leaders.  They asked us some random questions to get to know us better. They asked, "If you could live anywhere for the rest of your life, where would it be ?" I said, "Celestial Kingdom" and we all had a good laugh. My companion couldn't decide where she would go, so doing my best to help I said, "well, ya know, Texas is basically the same thing πŸ˜‚
Remember to tell people you're grateful for them! Express your appreciation. Let us ALL come together and do a little better. Everyday I want y'all to find at least one thing you're grateful for and express it to someone. There's literally 1000's of ways to do so.
*Write a letter (maybe to your favorite missionary of ALL time --cough cough--letters may just be her favorite thing ever ;)
*sing a song. As Buddy the Elf once said, "the best way to spread Christmas cheer (Christ's cheer) is singing loud for all to hear." SO LETS DO IT.
*do something for someone. Don't just sit around, don't expect someone to know you're thankful, ACTUALLY GO AND LET THEM KNOW.
*Let them see and feel it.
*Hold the door open.
*Buy SOMEONE'S food in front of you at Taco Bell!
*Bake chocolate chip cookies, and send it to them!
*Go serve.
*SMILE πŸ˜Š at someone!
*Send them a text.
*Go let someone know you love and appreciate them.
We all have our different ways to express our appreciation. Go and do!

Let's help others be uplifted and loved. Christmas is coming.  It's a perfect time to start preparing by looking for extra ways to be more like Him and to help others feel of His love with the holiday spirit.
And if you feel stuck go to PINTEREST cause it always has lots of fun ways to help people cheer up during the holidays. Also prayer!  If you don't know what to do, PRAY! Ask God how you can use your talents to help his children.

Te quiero mucho,
Hermana Γ„llowitz

This quote reminded me of the Book of Mormon. It's hands down my VERY FAVORITE BOOK!
Many people and ancient prophets DIED FOR us to have this book.
So PICK IT UP. READ IT. STUDY IT. One of my friends wrote me a couple weeks ago and said her college professor was talking about the Book of Mormon and asked ," WHAT DO YOU WANNA TELL MORONI YOU DID WITH THE BOOK OF MORMON?"
And holy moly, I LOVE that a LOT! I DONT in any way wanna take for granted this wonderful gift from God or any other wonderful books that people have written. I know the Book of Mormon truly is the word of God and we need to be reading and digging deeper within its great pages daily. I know it brings so much happiness and light into my life.
And yet I also know there's other wonderful authors who are members and who are non members. And so I'm really grateful we can learn on so many different levels.
So basically , y'all GO AND READ. it's so fun :)

A few MIRACLES this week :
  • " I got a feeling " came on !!!
  • Saw Rachel again at the  chiropractor
  • Still sunshine πŸŒžπŸŒžπŸŒžπŸŒž
  • When I was dying with a fever Sis. Irvin came to the rescue
  • I met Jenna!
  • We were going to visit some people and felt promoted to visit a lady down the street.  But I couldn't remember her name!  We were getting closer and closer to the door, then BOOM there came the name. It was Patricia. I love the Holy Ghost.
  • Sis. Lewis made her FAMOUS raw tomato soup and all I can say is : πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜»
  • Members have continued to give us rides places since we were in a car share.  GUESS WHAT...WE ARE NO LONGER IN A CAR SHARE. WAHOOOO! I'm SO HAPPY.
  • Sis. Mulder made biscuits and gravy, and it's one of my FAVS. So good.
  • My foot keeps healing!

One of our leaders has asked us to do a training nearly EVERY  week this transfer. Jokingly Sis. Anderson said its prepping one of us for a leadership position. Lol psych.  Actually it turns out that Sister Anderson and I will both be training new baby missionaries !!!! #trainingx3.  Sis Anderson  will be whitewashing an area, as I thought. I'm super duper excited. I love training !

We got to talk in sacrament meeting yesterday on President Monson's talk "An Attitude of Gratitude " ---ONE OF MY FAVORITE TOPICS !!!!!  It was fun.

It's been awful being sick BUT it was nice because I got permission to go to bed a couple hours earlier than usual AND sleep in! I felt super weird cause I felt like I was being SUPER disobedient,t but it was great to try to get feeling better. I still don't feel the greatest, but I think my fever is gone. πŸ˜‚

In Preach My Gospel on page 105, there's a wonderful section that talks about how the Book of Mormon really DOES testify of Jesus Christ.
I loved these:
*It testifies of Christ by affirming the reality of his life, mission, and power.
*It teaches true doctrine concerning the Atonement-- foundation for the Plan of Salvation.
*Those who know little or nothing about the Savior will come to know Him by reading, pondering, and praying about the Book of Mormon.
*The testimony of the Book of Mormon confirms the testimony of theBbible that Jesus is the only Begotten Son of God and the Savior of the world.
*As you teach the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, you will testify often about the Savior and Redeemer of the world. By the power of the Holy Ghost, you will add your loving witness of the truthfulness of this message. "
--
I KNOW with ALL my heart that the Book of Mormon DOES testify of our loving Savior, Jesus Christ, and that He LIVES. I know God gave us the Book of Mormon to read and ponder and study from, along with the Bible. I know they go hand in hand.
There are many misconceptions that we don't believe in the Bible or that it's held lower than the Book of Mormon or that the Book of Mormon is our bible but lemme tell you .... NONE OF THAT IS TRUE!!!! The Book of Mormon and Bible help us learn more about the Savior and connect the things taught in each one. I love them both.

As I read that section I was thinking.....
*** we MUST read and ponder it  DAILY to KNOW the Savior.
ASK YOURSELF :
--if the Savior walked by, would I recognize him?
--is Jesus Christ my best friend ?? Or just merely an acquaintance?
I want Him to be my BEST FRIEND.
People will come and go but the Savior will NEVER leave us.
I PROMISE YOU IT'S TRUE.

 2 Nephi 25:26
"And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."

Okay, for reals -- it is ALL ABOUT JESUS.
I eat, sleep, drink, talk, this work everyday. I've seen the difference in my life.  It's a GREAT ONE. If y'all aren't able to say you're "BEST FRIENDS " with the Savior yet, I'd like to invite you to GET ON YOUR KNEES and offer a prayer to our loving Heavenly Father and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Pray for a desire. Pray for help. HE WILL AND CAN HELP YOU.  if you're not getting the results you want , look for what you need to change to get there !
The Savior is waiting. He's at the door. He's waiting. Open it. LET HIM IN.

The coolest Chicago missionary you know ,

My CUBS pumpkinπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ
RHONDA. We got to teach her the Plan of Salvation this week. Wahoo!!
Get this ... We played stake basketball together and here we are
serving in the same mission. WHAAAT? I'm loving all these connections.
I really am my mothers daughter.

Oh my goodness this last week we had Zone Conference and it was awesome!  I got to participate in a special musical number.  Apparently all those duets with Kimmer have paid off, so THANK YOU KIMMER!!!! πŸ˜Š We sang "Joseph Smith's First Prayer", but with a twist...we sang it to Sister MΓΌhlestein's  fav hymn, "If I Could Hie to Kolob". OH MY GOODNESS, y'all it was so beautiful! The spirit was so strong. Those are two of my favorite hymns. Oh I just love this gospel!!! We talked about different ways that we can be more effective tools in the Lord's hands. It's was awesome. We have some of the greatest Zone Leaders! Elder Casto & Elder Limary love the work & are committed to this important duty. Seriously so stellar. As well as my leaders when I was in Morton.   I love my mission for many reasons. One is that I've met some of the GREATEST people I've EVER known. I'm telling you...God really knows what he's doing. I love him!

At zone conference we heard of 2 missionaries  who thought it would be cool to pick up and pet some squirrels, but then they got bit. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸΏπŸΏπŸΏπŸΏ  It reminded me of the time Skyler picked up the "dead squirrel" with a ziplock bag cause she felt sorry for it after Cali ( the cat) almost killed it.  Then it bit her and she had to go to the ER. Thanks for making me laugh from 1000s of miles away Skyler ! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ

Also some missionaries tried to  set a trap to catch squirrels cause they thought it was cool. They saw they had caught something, but it was super dark outside. Psych...it was a skunk, and they both got BLASTED.   So basically ... just leave Mother Nature alone.

Some miracles this week :
  • 80 degrees November 1. Wahoo...the same EVERYDAY last week. Sooo nice!!!
  • Chipotle miracle. We almost sat inside but thank goodness we didn't, cause we met the coolest family....A mom and dad and two young kids. There was a difference about them. You could see the countenance in the family's eyes! You could see and feel the light. We started  talking to them and they are of the Nazarene denomination.  The man works at the local religious college here. They recently had a loved one pass on.  As we were about to leave the Spirit hit me sooooo strong ..."YOU NEED TO GIVE THEM A PLAN OF SALVATION PAMPHLET". I was sooo scared. I don't know why, because I've been doing this for 10 months now.  I gulped and explained a little about the pamphlet and bore my testimony of this wonderful plan of happiness. They accepted it, and we went our separate ways. I know we were there that night to meet them. I am grateful Heavenly Father helped me muster the courage to do so.
  •  I saved a members home from a spider who decided to come in...with my own two hands... then let it go outside. My comp said, "what if you get bit again?" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ Yeah I knew I'd be fine. God helps us out ... I didn't kill nature and therefore I didn't get bit. Lol and also the members were super impressed. It was funny. We gained more trust so that was cool. Haha.
  •  Stanley is quite the character. Last night we met and he was talking about how much this world is going to "heck"πŸ”₯πŸ”₯. He said "it's ridiculous, because we used to be able to just fist fight each other. Now we just seem to get guns and kill one another. I told him we (he and I) could have a fight right there in his garage. The member with us said,  "be careful she's from Texas" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Seriously, I think I've gotten more Texas jokes in 10 months than ever before in my life. I just went with it and told him we could bring a bull in and fight with it. He seemed to be scared, so I told him we could slowly work out what to do and just get our boxing gloves on. Oh my he sure is a hoot. He's awesome. I know he and his wife Leanne will be baptized one day. We might be going back out there on my day of birth πŸŽˆπŸŽˆπŸŽˆπŸŽ‰πŸŽ IT JUST cracks me up everyone is soooo excited I'm from Texas.

We had a very special Regional Conference yesterday...broadcast from SL.
Devin g. Durant:"the best way to become a better teacher is live a Christlike life." I've found this is so true. It's not always easy, but when we live like the Savior, we are happier and more effective instruments in his hands. I love being a missionary and love the opportunity to learn how to become a better teacher, and then ACTUALLY DO IT.  One of my fav quotes:"do the best you can until you know better ,and then do better". That is what I do each day. I try to do as the Savior would do. I've seen my life dramatically change as I've done so. It's so worth it!

Throughout the course of my mission I've had many people ask me
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SERVE A MISSION? Here's a little story about how my life got turned  NWOD EDISPU (upside down)...in a good way of course.

I've always wanted to serve. Then different life events reconfirmed my DEFINITE NEED  to serve a full time mission. I got the opportunity to stay at the Guatemala MTC when I was 12 and meet members there while my grandfather  served as CCM President! The members there  didn't have much, but they have enough because they have the Restored GOSPEL of Jesus Christ in their lives. They have  their forever families, so they have enough.

Same in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, at age 19.  I love my Guatemalans and Catrachos, because they helped me gain a stronger testimony that the church is so true. In Honduras I worked  with a non profit organization called OLAAT, One Life At A Time, that teams up with the church  for those who wanna go on missions & university, but have limited resources. I was again so beyond impressed by the faith of these dear saints who worked hard  so they could serve a mission and better themselves and their loved ones and those around them.  (FYI-- if ANY of y'all have a desire to serve on a mission  trip, just lemme know.  Cause I just happen to know a guy ;)  It'll change your life FOREVER!!!) It's not easy for any of us, but for them it was immensely hard.  Yet they did it because they KNOW the gospel is true. They're truly converted. When I saw that I knew what I was missing. I really wanted to be truly converted too! They inspired me again to go serve a Mission.

Around 16, I got an opportunity to go on splits in California with awesome Sister Monson & Egbert... 2 of the BEST companions EVER. πŸ˜Š We went to visit a man named Bill, who kept making excuses about things the sisters said.  At the end of the lesson, the sisters asked if I had anything I wanted to say. My heart kinda freaked out because I had NO clue what to say, but  the scripture Matthew 7:7 popped into my head. I simply bore testimony of how I knew he would receive answers to his prayers as he was sincere and he followed the scriptures guidance. The spirit was stronger than ever before. He told me I changed his life and that I needed to serve a mission so I could change people's lives like I did his. I was STUNNED. I didn't feel like I was listening, and yet God helped me know exactly what to say. And exactly what Bill needed.
I told him I was already planning on it, but again my answer was confirmed I needed to serve a full to mission! The spirit is so strong if we are really listening.

I've also seen so many close friends and family members fall away from the church, so I wanna be out here to find those who have lost their way just as my loved ones have. That's a little big piece of WHY I chose to come here.

The following is one of my favorite hymns because I know what it teaches is true. I KNOW when we put Jesus Christ as each of our personal foundations things WILL work out. I love that the Savior is our firm foundation. With him we won't falter or crack. He is the ONLY WAY. I LOVE HIM.

How Firm a Foundation
1.
How firm a foundation, ye Saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in his excellent word!
What more can he say than to you he hath said,
Who unto the Savior, who unto the Savior,
Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?
2.
In ev’ry condition—in sickness, in health,
In poverty’s vale or abounding in wealth,
At home or abroad, on the land or the sea—
As thy days may demand, as thy days may demand,
As thy days may demand, so thy succor shall be.
3.
Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, upheld by my righteous,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand

FOR THOSE OF Y'ALL DECIDING TO GO ON A MISSION..... (and for everyone else, of course)...Missionary life is a LOT harder than anyone prepares you for. It's made me think a lot about how it is like life. Life is VERY HARD. No one can prepare you for that, but it's through the experiences of hardship and joy that we find our greatest happiness. And why is that? Well it's all because we get to experience just a sliver of what Jesus Christ experienced and for that I am eternally grateful.

The Illinois Chicago west mission is the best. I love being a missionary. I hope ALL Y'ALL continue to seek for the happiness that life's lessons teach us. Never forget, "two men look through self same bars. One sees mud while the other sees stars." LOOK FOR THE GOOD. I wanna challenge everyone to Look for the good even in their darkest hours.

Til next time  --
